On Modeling ICME Cross-Sections as Static MHD Columns
نویسندگان
چکیده
Solar coronal mass ejections are well-known to expand as they propagate through the heliosphere. Despite this, their cross-sections usually modeled static plasma columns within magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) framework. We test validity of this approach using in-situ data from 151 magnetic clouds (MCs) observed by WIND spacecraft and 45 Helios spacecraft. find that most probable cross-section expansion speeds for events only $\approx 0.06$ times Alfvén speed inside MCs, while is 0.03$ . MC can thus be considered nearly over an crossing timescale. Using estimates electrical conductivity arising Coulomb collisions, we Lundquist number MCs high ( 10^{13}$ ), suggesting MHD description well justified. The Joule heating rates our several orders magnitude lower than requirement near Earth. While (low) compute consistent with description, discrepancy points possible departures need a better understanding in MCs.

MODELING FASHION Anonymous ICME submission
We propose a method to try to model fashionable dresses in this paper. We first discover common visual patterns that appear in dress images using a human-in-the-loop, active clustering approach. A fashionable dress is expected to contain certain visual patterns which make it fashionable. An approach is proposed to jointly identify fashionable visual patterns and learn a discriminative fashion c...
متن کاملModeling Neutrino Quasielastic Cross Sections on Nucleons and Nuclei
Abstract. We calculate the total and differential quasielastic cross sections for neutrino and antineutrino scattering on nucleons using up to date fits to the nucleon elastic electromagnetic form factors G E , G n E , G p M , G n M , and FA and pseudoscalar form factors. We compare predictions of the cross sections for nucelons and nuclei to experimental data. (Presented by Arie Bodek at CIPAN...
متن کاملModeling nuclear stopping with in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections
Stopping in heavy ion collisions is investigated with the aim of understanding microscopic dynamics of collisions and transport properties of nuclear matter. Boltzmann-equation simulations are compared to available data on stopping in the energy range between 0.02 A and 1.5 A GeV. Stopping observables used in comparisons include momentum anisotropy, linear momentum transfer, and isospin tracing...
متن کاملModeling Deep Inelastic Cross Sections in the Few GeV Region
Data from atmospheric neutrino experiments [1] have been interpreted as evidence for νμ → ντ oscillations with sin 2 2α > 0.88 and 1.6 × 10 < ∆m < 4 × 10 eV. These neutrino data are in the few GeV region. Therefore, good modeling of νμ and νμ cross sections at low energies is needed. The modeling of νμ and νμ cross sections is even more important for the more precise next generation neutrino os...
متن کاملModeling Stone Columns
This paper reviews the main modeling techniques for stone columns, both ordinary stone columns and geosynthetic-encased stone columns. The paper tries to encompass the more recent advances and recommendations in the topic. Regarding the geometrical model, the main options are the "unit cell", longitudinal gravel trenches in plane strain conditions, cylindrical rings of gravel in axial symmetry ...
